Frank Salt & Co. are now celebrating over 50 successful years of business.
The family business is run by Mr. Paul Ward and his son Bill.
Originally the company was started up in 1948 by Mr William (Bill) Ward Snr.
Sadly William passed away in 1997 before witnessing his company entering it's half century.
He started the business in foundry, plant and ancillary equipment. The business then diversified in 1954, with Frank Salt & Co building over-head electric traveling cranes and electric hoist blocks.
This part of the business was sold on in the mid-seventies with the companies emphasis turning to the machine tools industry.
We now specialise in purchasing machine tools, single machines and complete factories, including freeholds.
With the recent trend for companies to use CNC machinery we have now diversified in supplying all types of CNC Machine Tools, i.e. Horizontal Machining Centres, Vertical Machining Centres, CNC Lathes, Sliding head CNC Lathes, and Multi Axis CNC lathes.
All the popular makes particularly Hitachi Seiki, Mazak, Mori Seiki, Okuma, Nakamura, Citizen, Star, Toshiba, Emco, and Daewoo are included in our large inventory.
Our showroom in Gloucester boasts 10,000 sq. ft. complimented with a 17 tonnes overhead crane.
Our transport company has a 42 ton long reach crane with our own operators to make sure delivery is very efficient and careful.
All machines can be viewed under power and cutting tests can be carried out.
One area of our business concentrates on buying and selling machinery worldwide. We have bought and sold to companies in America, Australia and even Israel, keeping close relationships with Germany and the rest of the E.C.
We can be found in the European Association of Machine Tool Merchants.
Being a member with this international group we have to follow a code of ethics. This code ensures that businesses associated with E.A.M.T.M. follow strict guidelines so as to protect both customers and other members.
Frank Salt & Co. also buy factories with a view to renting to prospective tenants.
This side of the business is particularly strong on the Sandy Lane Industrial Estate, where the company is based. We currently own about 25% of that estate. This side of the business began in 1961 when we first moved to Sandy Lane. We were originally based on one of the first properties built on the estate. After that we bought another site, on the same estate and renting out our previous location. This domino effect progressed thus resulting in Frank Salt & Co owning around 26 units on the entire estate.
